You’ve got an Apple Watch with loads of apps that you can access from the Home screen. But the apps may not be arranged the way you like, making it difficult to find a particular app. Can you better view or organize your apps to make them easier to access? You sure can.
On the watch itself, you can switch from Grid View to List View to see the apps and their names. You can rearrange the apps on your Home screen. And you can remove icons for third-party apps that you don’t use. Let’s see how you can organize your Apple Watch apps.
The Apple Watch starts off with a handicap. The screen is so small that there’s no room to show all the apps with their names, at least not in the default Grid View. Sneak past that limitation with List View.
Tap on the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch to segue to the Home screen. Unless you’ve already changed the layout, your apps appear in Grid View, which means you see an icon for each app but no names. Press down the screen until you see two buttons, one for Grid View and one for List View. Tap List View. Now you can see the icon and name of each app.
Yes, you have to swipe down a sometimes long alphabetical list of apps until you find the one you want. But at least you know where to find each app. To get back to Grid View, press on the screen again and tap the Grid View button.
2Rearrange on Apple Watch
Maybe you prefer Grid View but want to better organize your apps so you know where to find each one. You can rearrange the layout from your watch or from your iPhone. Let’s try both ways.
Lightly press down on one of the app icons on your watch’s Home screen until all the apps start jiggling. Hold down an icon you want to move and drag it to its new location. Keep moving the icons this way until you achieve a layout you prefer. You may want to arrange the icons alphabetically, or you might want to arrange them by function or type. When done, press the Digital Crown to stop the jiggling.
3Rearrange on iPhoneYou’ll probably find it easier and quicker to use your iPhone to redecorate your watch’s Home screen. Open the Watch app on your phone and tap on the entry for App Layout. Press down on an icon you want to move. Drag it to its new spot. Continue to move the icons around until you like the layout.
4SiriThere is a way to launch an app without having to navigate the Home screen. Just say: “Hey Siri. Open [name of app],” and Siri complies.
5Delete Apps on Apple Watch
Maybe you don’t use certain apps and want to remove their icons. You can’t get rid of built-in apps such as Email, Photos, Music, or Settings. But you can put the kibosh on third-party apps. How do you know which apps you can remove? Open the Watch app on your iPhone. Swipe down the My Watch screen until you see a section called “Installed on Apple Watch.” Any apps in that section can be deleted.
At the Home screen on your watch, lightly press down on one of the app icons until the apps start jiggling. Look for an app with an X in the upper-left corner. Tap on such an app. You’re asked if you want to delete it. Tap on “Delete App,” and away it goes.
6Delete Apps on iPhoneFinally, you can easily remove Apple Watch apps using your iPhone. Again, open the Watch app on your iPhone and swipe down to the section for “Installed on Apple Watch.” Tap on an app you no longer wish to see on your watch. Then turn off the button to Show App on Apple Watch. The app is uninstalled and removed from your watch.
